Root Feeding

rootfeed.jpg

A wonderful way to give health care and fertilizer to trees, shrubs, and flower beds. The fertilizer is injected into the soil at the root system where the plant is feeding. One injection allows for season-long fertilizer availability.

Results from this application will include strong growth, increased hardiness, improved resistance to stress, improved resistance to insects and improved ability to ward off disease and pollution.

AND IMPROVED SERVICES

Current research shows the importance of maximizing the growth process of plants for areas with short growing seasons such as here in the western high plains. The research shows that we must concentrate on:

  1. Allowing our plants to produce during the entire season when the soil is not frozen.

  2. Maximizing root production during the dormancy period when the ground is frost free.

 SPECIAL TECHNIQUES

Special techniques and products must be used to maximize growth in the urban landscape due to the progressive depletion of soils.

  1. In forest floors roots are in contact with naturally occurring elements due to the natural nutrient recycling from rotting leaf and twig litter, and good natural mycorrhizal populations.

  2. Unfortunately, in the urban landscape the litter is generally removed and the soils are depleted. It stands to reason that it is necessary to do sensible applications of necessary elements, slow release nitrogen, available phosphates and potassium, an organic blend, and essential mycorrhizal populations.

  3. Results will be strong growth, increased hardiness, improved resistance to stress, improved resistance to insects, improved ability to ward off disease and pollutions.

 IDEAL PRODUCTS

Ideal products for tree and shrub fertilizer include and are applied

  1. A slow release product that is semi water soluble.

  2. Ideal application is made during the dormant season or during the early part of the spring growth season of trees and shrubs.

  3. Fertilizer is applied under pressure to the soil around the feeder roots of the trees and shrubs and is released as

    1. 1/3 of product in the first six weeks

    2. 1/3 of product in the second six weeks to three months

    3. 1/3 of product, in the period three months to nine months giving true season long fertilization.

SOIL TEMPERATURES

Soil temperature is important for the fertilizer to work properly. As the soil temperature drops and microbial activity decreases, fertilizer particles remain unreleased until soil temps once again rise. Being a slow release, partially soluble fertilizer, our Dogget brand fertilizer will remain in the soil at freeze-up, ready for utilization next spring.

IMPROVED APPLICATION

This unique form of nitrogen discussed above is applied into the soil with a power sprayer so as to incorporate the fertilizer strategically at the feeder root zone and to break open the tight and compacted soils for new root initiation.

PRACTICAL REASONS FOR APPLICATION

  1. Trees are living in a mined and nutrient-depleted soil system.

  2. Fast release fertilizer applied to lawns is a heavy salt product that is actually harmful to root tissue in a concentrated form.

  3. Fertilizer applied to turf rarely reaches the trees in the lawn. Most is used up by the grass.

  4. Urban landscapes are surrounded by and criss-crossed by cement and asphalt which severely limits the nutrient absorbing surface for tree roots.

  5. Improved health and value of plant materials.

ADDED BENEFITS OF SOIL INJECTION

  1. Humic acid is applied with the fertilizer. This is a very beneficial nutrient with microbial activity.

  2. Mycorrhizea fungi is applied in the solution. This is a very beneficial pathogen which provides symbiotic benefits to plants through increased absorption of fertilizer from soil to roots.

  3. Systemic insecticides can be applied with the root feeding application.

  4. Fertilizer is not leached away into the water table as with high content, fast release, and nitrogen turf fertilization.
